Lent begins on February 14, 2024. Here is an activity for Shrove Tuesday (February 13, 2024).

One tradition that some parishes and families participate in is burying the alleluia during Lent. According to the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, “Alleluia means “Praise the Lord!” and it rings throughout the year — except during Lent. It’s not that the Church wants us to stop praising God during that time. Not at all. We suppress Alleluia because, long before the coming of Christ, that word belonged especially to the Paschal Season — the season of Passover.”

This set of printable pages includes 4×4 letters to spell alleluia to color and cut out, an envelope template to create a 5×7 envelope to keep the letters during Lent, and instructions on how to do this activity.
