Punch & Judy Pegs

Punch and Judy Pegs offers hand-painted wooden peg dolls to provide natural, open-ended play for little ones while introducing them to Our Lord, the Blessed Mother, and the saints. They are also unique, custom gifts for special occasions, suchas a Baptism, First Holy Communion, and Confirmation. As a mom to four young children, I am always on the hunt for natural, simple toys that provide the opportunity for imaginative, open-ended play. A few years ago, I stumbled upon painted wooden peg dolls and began creating them for my kids. I then began painting them for nieces and nephews and god-children... and just couldn't stop sharing the joy of a simple wooden peg with those I loved. I'm hoping to share that same joy with you and your loved ones. I named the shop Punch & Judy Pegs in honor of the joyful, buoyant philosophy of one of my favorite authors, G.K. Chesterton. Chesterton believed that Fairy Tales are true, that Play is serious business, and that being alive is the grandest of adventures. In his autobiography, Chesterton wrote at length on the importance of play, of toys, of imagination, and of childhood on his development. He makes it clear that you will not understand him or his philosophy if you don't understand that all of his travels and successes "mean less to me than Punch and Judy on Campden Hill." So I hope to paint little wooden pegs to honor his defense of the seriousness of small things, the truth of the imagination, and the momentous value of play.   "It is not only possible to say a great deal in praise of play; it is really possible to say the highest things in praise of it. It might reasonably be maintained that the true object of all human life is play." - G.K. Chesterton
