Description

St. Lucia Day is celebrated on December 13th. Lucia (pronounced Lu-chée-a in Italian and Lu-sée-a in Swedish) is the patron saint of light in Sweden today is celebrated throughout Europe. Born in Italy in the third century AD to a noble Greek family, Lucia was brought up a in a time of severe persecution for those of the Christian faith. Devastated by plans for an arranged marriage to a pagan man, Lucia renounced the wedding and chose to dedicate her life to God and give her share of the family fortune—her dowry—to the poor. Her behavior was viewed as so strange she was thought to be possessed with evil spirits. Lucia steadfastly clung to her faith and was martyred on December 13, 304.

I love to make art sparkle with crystals glitter and rhinestones and it truly is my passion to work on each piece.

Although the esthetic of the pieces are gorgeous … this type of art actually stems from a tradition in my Chaldean Catholic culture. Chaldean Catholics are such a small minority from ancient villages in Iraq. Our culture is so indigenous that our language is Aramaic which is the language of Jesus Christ himself. The tradition we have held  and carried through the years is that any image of Jesus or Mary would be more revered when adorned with a “Taj” or in English a crown. The generations before me would often times even use a thin sheet of authentic gold to complete the crowning. Over the years people started adding many other jewels.

My art pieces are my representation of the honor I have to make images of catholic art be as majestic as the Royal family in heaven deserve.
