The inspiration behind my shop is to shine a little light on the world with my handmade and vintage items. Hence the name- Piccolo di Luce which translates to "a bit of light". The Little Oratory by David Clayton (www.thewayofbeauty.com) and Leila Marie Lawler (www.likemotherlikedaughter.org) has also been an inspiration~ especially with my pocket oratories. Knowing that I made some tabernacle covers for the chapel at Thomas More College of Liberal Arts in Merrimac, NH, David approached me with the idea of recreating a travel oratory. I made a couple of samples to show them as well as two others for my college-age sons. With both his and Leila's encouragement, I am now making two styles of pocket oratories. My love of working with textiles also brought me to design and sew quilted icons. The originals were made for my four children as they entered the Catholic Church in 2012. I also started making Rosary cases this year as well as custom designed pillow cases. I will be giving 5% of all I make to Mary's Meals. Their mission is "to enable people to offer their money, goods, skills, time, or prayer, and through this involvement, provide the most effective help to those suffering the effects of extreme poverty in the world’s poorest communities." With Mary's Meals, a child can be fed lunch for a full year for only $19.50!
