This is a digital download pattern. It is not the completed shawl.
This crochet pattern was uniquely designed to be completed while praying a novena. A novena is a set of prayers prayed over nine consecutive days. The tradition of praying novenas traces back to the nine days after the Ascension that Apostles and Blessed Mother prayed and waited for the coming of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost.
This beginner crochet pattern is intended to be created over the nine days that you pray the novena. The pattern includes the prayers for the novena to Our Lady, Undoer of Knots. This novena has a special place in Pope Francis’ heart and he often turns to it when he is facing a difficult decision or knot in life. Each day, you will have the opportunity to pray the prayers, plus meditate with Hail Mary’s that will help you to imbue each stitch you create with love, support and prayer. Each day’s crochet work should take approximately 20-30 minutes, depending on how quickly you crochet.
Once you have prayed and stitched your shawl, you can now gift it to whomever you have labored lovingly for. This novena prayer shawl represents more than just the warmth and comfort it will provide. It is also a symbol of the prayers carried not only by you, but also Our Blessed Mother, to our Heavenly Father. If you have chosen to create this shawl while praying for a more general concern (for example, the healing of addicts, those suffering from depression, or those with terminal illnesses), it would make a beautiful gift for a hospital, nursing home or homeless shelter in your area.
This pattern was made with a size N hook. The yarn featured is Lion Brand Homespun Windsor (Bulky). You should use approximately 2 skeins. This pattern uses double crochets, double crochet increases and double crochet decreases. The finished shawl is 55″ long and 14″ wide.
