Description
This piece truly means a lot to me. It is inspired by medieval paintings of Our Lady of Mercy, but adapted to the current state of the world. All those affected by the Covid-19 pandemic crowd under Our Lady’s mantle. She offers to us the solution to our sorrow and fear: the rosary. Her eyes are upturned as she intercedes for us to her Son. The angels on either side represent justice and mercy. Below is a narrative of people trying to gain access to the church, while a bishop holds the key. Two angels weep at the sides of the monstrance on behalf of those who cannot be with Our Lord in adoration.
I created this piece not only to aid myself as I was experiencing fear, panic, hurt, and at times despair, but to remind myself that ultimately the Church will always be triumphant. Christ has not abandoned us, and Our Lady never ceases to comfort us.
The print is 9″x12″, with a 0.5cm border.

As an artist, I want to incorporate my love of Catholicism and its communion of saints in ways that are unique and colourful, and bring them to life in a new way. I want to share my art with the world and learn more about the saints and the Church as I do it.
