Description

This is Our Lady of Mount Carmel. Mount Carmel is a mountain in Israel where a bunch of monks hung out. Things were crazy in the area, so they decided to pack up and go check out Europe until things cooled down in the Middle East.

In the 13th century, Mary made a visit to England and caught up with Saint Simon Stock, a Carmelite Monk. She gave him the brown scapular, a mini-religious habit, and they had a chat about how wearers of the scapular will be a part of the Carmelite family, they should consecrate themselves to and trust in Mary, and that the scapular should be a constant reminder to imitate Our Lady’s virtues. Also, it should be brown, made of wool and, this is very important, it’s not magic. You still have to do what Jesus said to do to get into heaven but the scapular is a nice (and fashionable!) reminder that you’ve got God’s mum pulling for you.

Feast Day : July 16.

This is a print mounted on wood.  There’s a hanger in back.
